Yesterday morning we had a driving tour of the major sites of Colombia. It took all of 10 minutes. We went by Bolivar Plaza and stopped in to see the Cathedral - then on to look at the concert area. Evidently Ibague is the music capital of Colombia.
What we've realized is that there is more to Ibague, we are just limited by what Patricia our tour guide shows us. She likes to keep to her neighborhood where she is comfortable. Not necessarily a bad thing, just the way it is - we are in a bit of a bubble. Very safe, but unable to truly soak in some of Colombia.
My guys played basketball in the park after lunch. I'm struggling a bit with lower back pain so I hung out on the couch for a few hours. Late afternoon we headed into town to look for souveniours. Patricia took us by taxi since it is difficult to find parking downtown. We started at what she called 'the hippy shacks' - a row of stalls with Colombian made gifts. Tom then talked her into walking through the shopping street. It was nice to be out and about amongst the people. We wandered through a few more shops and stopped for Empenadas. The streets were full of people and music - very lively and fun.
Colombia played Ecuador in futbol yesterday. We watched the end of the game while playing cards back at the house. Colombia scored twice at the very end to win it and you could hear the cheers from the students in the bars down the street. We're pretty sure the celebration went late in the evening to early morning as we could hear some of the partiers on their way home.
