Today, July 20th, is Colombia's Independence Day! Johan and his fellow Colombians celebrate the first movement for Independence from Spain which began July 20th, 1810. Last year when Johan was here we attended a Colombia Independence Day picnic in Columbus. It was a festive picnic complete with Colombian dancers and the children singing the national anthem. Good fun...
We made a little progress last week. We finally received the detailed referral information that we were waiting on. This enabled us to file the I800 with Immigration Services. It appears the time from I800 submission to travel is about 8 weeks. They first approve the I800 - then the approval goes to the embassy in Colombia where they then file a paper that triggers our invitation to travel. Somewhere in there we will send our passports off to get visas. You have to have a visa to travel to Colombia.
So it is looking like September travel now. It's amazing how it went from March, April, May travel to June, July to August and now September! My hope used to be to get him home in time to start school but we know now that is not going to happen. Now my wish is to be with him for his birthday (September 13) and to get him home by Halloween!!
